Drone Roof Inspection in Houston

Steep, tile, slate and multi-story roofs get inspected from the air with 4K imaging that captures detail a ladder cannot safely reach. Free, and often combined with a physical walk where the roof allows.

Overview

Some Roofs Should Not Be Walked

A tile roof cracks under foot placement. Slate breaks. Aged wood shake gives way. Steep pitches above about 8:12 stop being safely walkable at all, and a three story roofline in Houston wind is a genuine fall risk rather than a theoretical one.

Historically that meant those roofs got inspected badly, from a ladder at the eave with a pair of binoculars, or not at all. Drone imaging removed that limitation. We fly the roof at close range, capture every slope in 4K, and review the imagery at a level of detail that beats standing on it.

That said, a drone is a tool rather than a replacement. Hail bruising in particular has to be felt as well as seen, so where a roof can be safely walked we walk it, and many of our inspections use both methods on the same property.

What a drone inspection captures

  • 4K imagery of every roof slope and elevation
  • Close range detail on ridges, hips and valleys
  • Flashing, chimney and skylight condition
  • Areas unreachable or unsafe on foot
  • Gutter interiors and roof line drainage
  • Overall roof geometry and measured area
  • Comparative imagery for later inspections
  • Storm damage patterning across the full roof
  • Full visual archive attached to your report
  • Combined with a physical walk where safe

Walking Versus Flying, and When Each Wins

An honest comparison. We use whichever suits the roof, and frequently both.

Do You Need One

When a Drone Inspection Is the Right Call

You have a tile or slate roof

Walking these causes the damage it is meant to find. Aerial imaging avoids that entirely.

The pitch is steep

Above roughly 8:12 a roof stops being safely walkable and coverage suffers as a result.

The building is multi-story

Height increases risk and reduces how much of the roof a person can practically reach.

You want a full visual record

4K imagery of every slope gives you a comparison baseline for future inspections.

The roof is fragile or aged

Deteriorated decking is a safety issue as well as a damage risk under foot.

You need fast coverage of a large roof

A drone surveys a large commercial roof far quicker than walking it section by section.

The Process

How the Flight Works

1

Site and airspace check

We confirm the property location and any airspace restrictions before the visit.

Before arrival
2

Perimeter and overview

An initial pass captures roof geometry, all elevations and the overall condition picture.

10 minutes
3

Close range detail

Lower passes capture ridges, valleys, flashings and penetrations at close range in 4K.

20 to 40 minutes
4

Review and report

Imagery is reviewed frame by frame and every finding is pulled into your written report.

Questions

Drone Roof Inspection Questions

For visual condition it is often better, because it covers every slope at close range including areas nobody could safely reach. For hail it is not sufficient on its own, since bruising has to be felt. Where a roof can be safely walked and hail is suspected, we walk it.

We need your authorization as the property owner, which you give when you book. Our pilots operate under FAA rules, and we check airspace restrictions before arriving. Parts of Houston sit under controlled airspace near the airports, which occasionally requires authorization before a flight.

No. A drone captures surface condition in high detail. If you need to know about trapped moisture beneath the surface, that requires infrared scanning and moisture metering, which we can run alongside a flight.

We fly over your property and keep the camera on your roof. Flights are short and the aircraft operates at roof height rather than circling the neighborhood. If a neighbor asks, our pilot will explain what is happening.

Yes. We do not fly in rain, in high wind, or in poor visibility, all of which are common enough in Houston to matter. If conditions are unsuitable on the day we reschedule rather than fly a compromised survey.
